Mario Mendez, Industry Manager (Gulf Coast Region)
For Mario Mendez, solving technical problems has always been at the center of his career. With a background in mechanical engineering and years of experience in pipeline valves, automation, and measurement systems, he has built a reputation for helping customers find practical solutions to complex operational challenges.
Today, as Industry Manager for the Gulf Coast Region at J2 Resources, Mario works closely with upstream and midstream operators to support liquid measurement and PVF applications. By combining technical insight with a strong understanding of supply chain dynamics, he helps customers identify solutions that are both reliable and cost-effective. Mario joined J2 Resources six years ago and has since focused on developing long-term relationships with customers throughout the Gulf Coast.
Where Engineering Meets the Field
Mario’s career began with a strong academic background in engineering. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Nacional Experimental del Táchira before continuing his education in petroleum technology at Houston City College.
That combination of mechanical engineering and industry-specific training naturally led him into the pipeline valve and automation sector.
Early in his career, Mario worked as an Applications Engineer, supporting customers by helping determine the right equipment and configurations for their systems. The role required both technical knowledge and the ability to understand how equipment performs in real-world operating environments.

He later transitioned into sales engineering roles at Lockwood International, where he spent nearly eight years working with customers across the pipeline industry. During that time, he developed expertise in valve automation and measurement systems while gaining valuable experience supporting field operations and project requirements.
Before joining J2 Resources, Mario continued building on that experience as a Sales Engineer with Chromatic Industries. Those years working on the technical side of the industry continue to shape the way he approaches customer relationships today.
“Understanding the application is everything. When you know how the equipment is going to be used, you can recommend solutions that actually make sense for the customer.”
Supporting the Gulf Coast Market
At J2, Mario focuses on supporting customers throughout the Gulf Coast region—one of the most active areas in the energy industry.
In his role as Industry Manager, he works directly with operators to evaluate their liquid measurement and PVF requirements. That process often involves reviewing specifications, identifying potential supply chain challenges, and recommending equipment solutions that align with both technical and commercial goals. Mario also manages key customer accounts and works closely with clients on project-based opportunities.
Rather than simply offering products, he aims to understand how those products fit within a customer’s broader operation.
“Every operation is different. The key is taking the time to understand what the customer is trying to accomplish and where you can bring value.”
Working Together to Solve Customer Challenges

One of the reasons Mario has enjoyed his time at J2 Resources is the collaborative culture within the organization. In his own words:

Giving Back Beyond the Industry
Outside of his professional work, Mario dedicates time to serving his community. For nearly a decade, he has volunteered as an ESL teacher with Memorial Assistance Ministries in Houston. Through the program, he helps individuals strengthen their English language skills—an important step for many as they pursue career opportunities and build their lives.

Throughout his career, Mario has focused on building lasting relationships with customers by understanding their challenges and providing practical solutions. That mindset continues to guide his work across the Gulf Coast region.
